GIRLS TRACK -- Hinsdale Central received school-record performances from the 800-meter relay team (senior Monique Bronowicki, Kayla Schwarz, Chelsea Celistan and Lauren Roush) and from freshman Jill Hardies in the 3,200 to win a six-team, indoor invitational at York Feb. 20.
The Red Devils' 159 points easily outdistanced Waubonsie Valley (104), York (69.5), Barrington (57.5), Sandburg (53) and Naperville Central (45).
The 800 relay (1 minute, 44.9 seconds) dusted the previous indoor school record of 1:46.54, setting a York field house record as well. The Red Devils won the race by 2.5 seconds over Waubonsie Valley.
Hardies (11:04.9) surpassed the indoor varsity school record of 11:09.16 -- set last year by graduated Heather Stevens -- and the frosh-soph record of 11:11.5, set by graduated Lauren Zumbach in 2006.
The Red Devils also finished 1-2 in the 200, with Roush (26.6) and Bronowicki (26.9); in triple jump, with Celistan (33-2 3/4) and freshman Meghan McDowell (32-8 1/2); and in high jump, with Stephanie Green (5-0) and Alexandria Lanphier (4-8).
Rita Kuckertz won the 800 (2:24.8) by 4.2 seconds. Also placing second: Green in the 300 (42.6), and the 1,600 relay of Paris Bates, Jude Watai, Kuckertz and Clare McCabe (4:18.2). Paris Bates tied for second in the 55 hurdles (9.3).
On Saturday, the Red Devils were edged by Downers Grove North 122-120 while beating Proviso East (30), Grayslake Central (22) and Metea Valley (4).
Event winners were Green (personal-best 5-2 in high jump), McDowell (16-4 1/2 in long jump), Jessie Vardas (10-0 in pole vault), Wafai (400 in 1:03), Nicole Lang (3,200 in 12:56.8), Bates (55 hurdles in 9.3) and Celistan (55 in 7.2). On the sophomore level, Morgan Celistan set a sophomore school record in triple jump (34-5).
Hinsdale Central's 87 points defeated Proviso East (43), Evanston (32) and host Proviso West (27) on Feb. 18. Kayla Schwarz (300 in 43.0; 200 in 26.94) and Roush (400 in 1:01.28; 55 in 7.5) were dual winners. Also winning were Kira Byczek (55 hurdles in 9.5) and Maddie Pound (1,600 in 5:49.64).
